My heart. Beautiful memorial for these young individuals who left too soon. Mostly a 3.7 mile hike one way but stopping in parking lot was very much a reminder of all these service men gave. Worth the drive. Beautiful weather and area. RIP

Beautiful tribute, but very difficult trek through the whole thing. I would not risk bringing elderly, or perhaps very small children. That being said, this is a nice memorial to the heroic souls who lost their lives. There's a plaque of each of them at the beginning, so even if you can't make the hike, you can visit the plaque of every one of them. The road leading up was pretty scary for me personally, as it's very high up.

Worth the effort! My son and I got to the parking area around 8am. The parking area is very limited, so I would definitely recommend getting there early. We were able to grab one of the two available spots, but the second spot got snatched up quickly after we parked. The hike is extreme, a lot of up! We timed it on a cool, cloudy day, so it was rather pleasant. The entire hike there, 10-15 minutes at the fatality site, and the hike back clocked us at just a little over 4 hours. Overall, it was worth it. The effort and planning that is needed for this hike makes it all that much more meaningful. If you haven’t already, watch the movie “Only The Brave” beforehand.

While it's a great hike on a well developed trail, it's also a great opportunity for reflection on the sacrifice and commitment of these men. The terrain is beautiful, with sweeping views of the surrounding area. A few moments resting on one of the provided benches really speaks to the courage of these guys as they battled the quickly approaching fire and the steep terrain they worked in. Bring water, it's a 5 mile round trip, and an open heart. This place will speak to you.

This is the parking and memorial that leads to the draw where they perished. 7 mile walk round trip. NOT to be done mid day. Steep trails no water or shade. Day temps summer well over 100+. Parking lot has incredible memorial

Wonderful tribute. The trail is difficult and could use a safety rail on certain areas. It took my family of 6 five and a half hours to hike to the viewing area. Very nice park guide and the restrooms were clean.

A somber and faithful memorial to the heroes who sacrificed their lives, this state park is a must visit if you are in the area. The parking lot is a bit petite, but it wasn't a problem getting a spot here on a busy travel weekend (after Thanksgiving). There are amazing views to be had throughout the entire time you hike this trail. Unfortuantely I did not get to hike the entire park up to the main memorial site, but I am certainly planning on returning in the near future!

Plan before you visit if you want to hike to the memorial grounds! Check the weather, dress appropriately, give yourself enough time and bring more than enough hydration and snacks. The hike is approx 4 hours round trip and you will climb around 1000 feet according to the topography map they have posted. Hiking sticks are available for anyone, there are restrooms (portable) in the parking lot, and a decent amount of spaces to park. Even if you don’t plan to hike the trail, the memorial at the parking lot is worth the stop with plenty of backstory on the tragedy and accessible areas of right up the steps that you can get a few good views in.
